SistersInStitch together with Yarn and Colors

“From deep within the soul and somewhere in the heart, there was the tiniest of rumbles and a million tiny sparks. Turning nothing into something this was only just the start, and when it was all finished it split up into ten different parts.”

The Butterfly Effect Legend

A QUICK CLICK

How it all came to BE..

The beginningIn the beginning of April 2018, the idea of the Butterfly Effect was born out of pure disappointment. Sometimes feelings like that can be a strong driving force. That this is where it all would end up was not the plan or even the dream though. The right eyes on the right stitches at the right time is probably the best way to explain the next turn of events.

Claire Montgomerie from Inside Crochet Magazine saw the first nine or so rounds and just fell in love with it. From there on the contact with Yarn and Colors came and soon there was a plan for a CAL and everything just snowballed. It would be modest to say that we were over the moon about that.

A trip to Amsterdam and hours and hours of work and finally it was done. The Butterfly Effect had gone from a small idea to a blanket. Getting the opportunity to share this pattern and this whole experience with the rest of the crocheting community is just beyond amazing and hopefully it won’t disappoint. We are both so glad that you, yes you (!), have found your way to this page and that you are going to be joining us on this amazing adventure that is The Butterfly Effect CAL 2019.

The pattern

The Butterfly Effect CAL 2019 is a gorgeous squared blanket designed by Kela Ahnhem for SistersInStitch. It is divided into 10 parts and runs for as many weeks; starting in January and ending in March 2019. Part 1 will be released firstly in Inside Crochet Magazine, if you want it before everyone else: make sure to get issue 110 that goes on sale the 24th of January.

The free pattern and video tutorials will be released every Friday morning with start at January 25th 10:00 (CET); here on SistersInStitch and over at Yarn and Colors. A great way to start the weekend!

Skill level
3/5

The stitches being used is pretty much the standard kind, what differs is the placements off them. With the help of step-by-step pictures, the video tutorials, forums and crochet charts for every part; we encourage everyone to give it a go. We will be there to answer your questions and show you how.

...and a helping hand

We want you to enjoy this process and we will do our best to make sure that any questions you might have get answered as soon as possible. The easiest way for you to make contact is via the official CAL forum group (coming soon).

In the unlikely event that there are errors in the pattern we will work as quickly as possible to fix it, update the pattern file and inform you.

A list of things we have used:

  • A Must-have or Epic Kit
  • A 3 mm or 5 mm hook (depending on which yarn we had chosen)
  • Scissors
  • Darning needle
  • Stitch markers
  • Tape measure
  • Blocking pins
  • Something to block on (blocking- or yoga mats, or maybe a mattress?)
  • Project bag (to keep it safe and carry with us, crocheting in public is highly recommended)

All you need to make it is some yarn, a hook that goes with it, scissors and needle to work away the ends and stitch markers too keep track of stitch placements.

A project bag will help keep you organised and your yarns in place. It’s also great for bringing your #wip out for a walk and maybe do a little “crocheting in public” which is such a great conversation starter!

Blocking your blanket is not a must, but it truly helps to bring forward the stitch definition while also evening it out and making it a bit bigger at the same time. If you don’t know how to do it; don’t worry. We will share a video tutorial for that too!
